Running in 32Bit Windows (XP & Vista) will only address a maximum of 4Gb both RAM and Video memory.
Going to 64Bit Windows, you can address much more then that

Actually you'll only get a bit over 3 gig to play with using the 32 bit vista/xp.
I started using vista believing it corrected that xp anomally but it didn't :(
I found a chronic driver shortage using 64 bit windows, maybe things have improved somewhat since then but i'll wait a bit more.
Vista isn't so bad after you strip the nagging and the eye candy out of it.
The prime quality of the core 2 whatever chips is their overclocking ability, they fly once that's done.
Make sure you have a decent power supply, that case doesn't have one and you'll be doomed to failure if you plant an old 350W job from the past in it.

Jim, I understand you can tell Windows to push the envelope slightly and use more memory, however it can have stability impacts.
Some of the Vista propaganda was misleading about the 4Gb limit. My new laptop has 64bit capabilities, however the OEM version of Home Premium doesnt come with 64 bit.
I understand the driver situation has improved, however its now the software thats the issue :)

Yes bacco i read up a little bit on changing the memory map but decided it wasn't worth the effort.
Almost off topic, working out the sweet spot for these conroe type chips is a bit of an art in itself if you overclock them.
My memory is only 667 but that suits my 9* e6600 multiplier quite well. I'm able to ramp up the clock to 334, so run the memory at its correct speed but have a fairly solid overclock on the cpu. Those 800 memory chips may well be much better suited to the cheaper CPU variants with the lower multipliers so they could be pumped up much further to suit the memory.
Of course to play this game you have to manually overide the memory settings else it thinks it's running much slower and uses tighter timings than it can handle.

Will be transplanting the PSU, HDDs etc from the old box.
