Welcome
Welcome to my phlog! I\'ve filled this Phlog with pictures I have taken during my travels (a couple were taken by friends).
This site is dedicated to celebrating the beauty of the Third World. Some of these were actually taken in a Third World within the First World (such as the New York pictures). Please do not re-use photos without permission.
Feedback is appreciated

La Vie en Rose
These two pictures are a little more controversial. As I am currently in the so-called First World, my pictures are limited to the \"Third World within the First World\" for now. The following two b&w shots I took in Manhattan; these two homeless persons were asking for money on Broadway st. I have heard that the UHO bottles may not be the most effective way of donating money to these organizations.
The point of posting these pictures on this site, however, is another one -- it\'s to include them as a celebration of life, a call to attention of the different types of lives that one can lead, without judgment as to quality. When I take these pictures I do not have evoking pity in mind -- in fact, just the opposite. It\'s an invitation to study the lives of others, and the photograph is but a little window, an introduction, into something that the viewers of this site might otherwise not have seen.
I cannot plant social consciousness in others, because that is something that ought to spring from their own self awareness. I can only contribute to that awareness by increasing exposure.

Celebrating People
For today\'s pictures I decided to create entries according to a theme...today\'s theme was Celebrating People -- and I\'ve included three pictures of people I encountered while in Colombia.
A weaver in Colombia...she was sitting by a bit market with her family, selling the tapestries and clothing they made.

Celebrating Children
Children in Boca Grande, Colombia. When our small boat stopped near their homes (see \"Boca Grande\" and \"Boca Grande2\" pictures in this phlog), they ran to ask us for food. We had about five potato chip bags (I love the Colombian ones!), which we gave them -- it was a bit heartbreaking to see them fight each other for the bags...
