So, I've done a little CSS hacking and hopefully fixed the front page so it's now all css and text-based (rather than nasty tables and images), in part because the table/image method was just plain nasty and partly in preparation for the translations.

Hopefully I've fixed the IE version (it seems to look ok in IE6) but please let me know if you spot any problems.

I've also (finally) put the 'go to phlog' box back on the front page - so visitors to phlog.net can go directly to a phlog by typing the name of your phlog and hitting go.

Also done added the 'hide/un-hide' option to the prefs page (as spotted by Abraxias in the forum), done a bit of tidying on the dashboard and fixed the calendar text-size problem on the blue-mid style on IE.

Speaking of styles - some of the custom styles that a number of folks have done are really cool (yes, I'm speaking to you Ms Motley). I want to grow the preset library but 1) I'm a crap designer and 2) I have no time! So, how about people submit their custom styles to me (usual address: alan@phlog.net and I'll put the best ones into the preset style gallery with full credit to you.

Yes, the Phlog phlog is back alive again.

So, y'all know that Phlog is now part of 20six and since the merging, I've been flat-out working on a few internal projects and preparing the site for the move to its lovely new server-home (a cool FreeBSD based cluster located in Germany for those who care about those things).

I know I've been a little quiet for the last month or so, but things are moving rapidly on phlog development again. A neat little addition that you've probably not noticed (I need to give it a link & icon or something) is an RSS feed of comments in your phlog at http://phlog.net/latest_comments.php?user=username&format=atom

For those of you that haven't discovered the joys of RSS feeds, they are simpy a way of allowing computers to talk to one-another. You run an application called an 'RSS Reader' on your computer (such as the gorgeous NewsFire for Mac, or the (not so gorgeous, but still very good) Feed Demon" for Windows) and give it a list of RSS feeds. The application then checks your 'feeds' every 10-30 minutes and notifies you of any new articles. So, by adding a particular user's phlog (with a URL like http:phlog.net/syndicate.php?user=alan ) or by adding your entire friends list (with a URL like http://phlog.net/friends.php?format=atom&user=alan (of course, substitute alan with your username) ), you can stay on top of your favourite phlogs without having to visit the site every hour or so.

By adding your comments as a feed (with a URL like http://phlog.net/latest_comments.php?format=atom&user=alan - again, substitute your username!) you will be immediately notified by your news reader when someone posts a comment in your phlog, even if it is to a post from years ago.

If you've never given an RSS reader a try, you really should - you'll never look back.

BTW, all of your lovely people that volunteered to help with translations - could you drop me another email? I've (finally) got all the translation files sorted out now and would love to get the out to you. You know where to contact me :)

If you go to your preferences and select \'phlog options\', you can set your phlog to either display thumbnails or the original full-size picture.

But obviously, if your camera takes 640x480 pictures, it\'s going to take a lot longer for your page to load for people with dial-ups!

Phlog's going on tour!

I'm heading off at the beginning of July to the 1st International
Moblogging Conference in Tokyo. Yay!

Needless to say, I'm more than a little excited!

I'm also a little terrified as I've agreed to give a short presentation
about phlog. Eek!
